TERRE HAUTE, Ind. – Thrive West Central, in partnership with the City of Terre Haute, hosted a ribbon cutting ceremony on Wednesday, June 4, to celebrate the grand opening of a new 42-unit townhome community on the city’s east side. The event took place at the corner of S.Fruitridge Avenue and Hulman Street and marked a major milestone in the Homes for the Future Program, an initiative designed to expand accessible, high-quality housing options in West Central Indiana.

The development, led by local developer John Mutchner, was made possible through funding provided by the City of Terre Haute via theAmerican Rescue Plan Act. The Homes for the Future Program continues to demonstrate the power of public-private partnerships in delivering long-term housing solutions to communities.

“This project is more than just new housing. It reflects our commitment to the future of Terre Haute,” said Mayor Brandon Sakbun. “By investing American Rescue Plan Act dollars into initiatives like this, we’re creating communities that support growth, accessibility, and quality of life for all. I’m proud to stand with Thrive West Central and our City Council in bringing these homes to life.”

The community includes 42 maintenance-free townhomes, each approximately 1,991 square feet with three bedrooms, two and a half bathrooms, a two-car garage, and upscale appliances and fixtures. Additional amenities include paved roads, sidewalks, green spaces, and a dog park, all designed to create a vibrant neighborhood environment for residents of all ages. Homes are available for purchase in the low to mid $300,000 range.

“This development is another example of the city’s commitment to updating and diversifying our housing stock,” added Mayor Sakbun.“It’s smart, thoughtful, and meets some of the needs of people looking for quality homes in a connected community.”

He continued, “We have celebrated a number of housing developments these last 18 months. Our housing program has led to infill homes, income-based housing, blight and rehabilitation projects, and neighborhood developments like this. We must continue to articulate our success in bringing in housing developments at many different price ranges.”

Julie Hart, Director of Housing at Thrive West Central, highlighted the program’s long-term vision. “Our focus with the Homes for theFuture Program is to create lasting solutions that reflect the evolving needs of our region. This development is a direct result of listening to our communities, supporting our local developers, and prioritizing housing that promotes livability, accessibility, and neighborhood vitality for all income levels.”

Speakers at the event included Mayor Brandon Sakbun, JulieHart of Thrive West Central, and Mandy Baesler of Berkshire-HathawayHomeServices Newlin-Miller.
